THE MAIN CABINET CURVED TRIMĀ
It was now time to add a trim piece which goes around the base of the main body. It is about 1″ high and 3/16″ thick. I believe the piece on the original is a laminate with 2 layers, or possibly three. I deciding to use 2 layers of thin cypress cut to an inch width to make the bend around the corner posts easier. Before I began making the trim, I disassembled the organ and turned it upside down in order to make it easier to clamp the trim into place. I began marking the areas on the 1″ wide thin strips which needed to be bent, and used a little creativity on my stove with two pots to boil the marked areas on the pieces to make them pliable. It worked pretty well! I took a picture of the boiling:
Then I quickly took the pieces and glued and clamped them onto the body:
Of course, the long areas along the sides were simply clamped on with bar clamps, while the corners needed c-clamps:
I then added the small final pieces on each underside that turned back into the knee board. And finally, I cut the back to size. I made the upper part to fit into the groove shown earlier I made in the rear top, and also make the rabbet cut on the bottom. I then added the small support blocks onto the back, and finally, after setting it into place, marked where the trim matched the sides. I then glued and clamped the last trim piece into place. Here’s a picture of the back with trim set into place:
