FLOOR JOISTS
After the footings were in place, I began nailing on 2″x10″ treated joists on each side of the footing posts to create a beam system, Then we then laid the 2″x10″x16″ floor joists onto the beam system:
And finally, we used Advantech ¾” tongue & groove decking for the subfloor, since it is water resistant. I needed something like that since I knew it would take a long time to frame the home since I was by myself at that point. (My son had returned to school.) I needed a subfloor that could be rained on for a while before the roof was covering the structure. At this point, it was time to stand up the walls. I built and stood up most of the walls by myself by framing up about 10’ long sections at a time, bracing them off to the decking, and continuing. I think I have a picture somewhere we posed with my elderly Mama holding one of them up while I took a picture. Now that’s a good memory! We thought it was funny at the time.
